What is LANC?
LANC is a connector found on Sony and some other camcorders, that can accept lens control instructions. To check if your camcorder has the LANC connector that makes zoom control possible, look for a small jack similar to a headphone connector, usually labelled with a stylized 'L.'
Camcorders with LANC
This is a partial list covering models we believe have a LANC connector.
Bikecameras.com On Board Video Systems are compatible with any video recording or display device (TVs, Camera, Video, Recorder, VCRs, or DVRs) that support analogue composite video input and operate in VCR mode.
This is NOT a complete list, and has been compiled for your convenience from information sourced from the 'net, we cannot therefore verify that the details below are accurate and indeed have Av Input.
This list is not complete so your camcorder may have a LANC jack even if it is not on this list. Check your owner's manual to be sure. This list includes models from previous years so many models on this list may no longer be available or supported by the manufacturer.
If your camcorder can operate as a vcr and record from an external video source and use our helmet camera as a secondary eye and has a VCR or VTR mode, then you should have AV Input. If your camcorder ONLY has PLAY or PLAYER mode, then your camcorder only has AV OUT, but no AV INPUT.

Also works with the Sony Video Walkman GVD800E (Sports 1.4v)
The TRV355e also works with the Sports 1.4v, however, the Sports LANC will not turn the camcorder on initially. However, if you connect the LANC and bulelt camera etc, then turn the Camcorder on manually you will then be able to turn it back off AND on by by the Sports LANC.

Question:
Is Lanc SPORT and Lanc II compatible with these camcorders?
Solution:
A new version of Lanc SPORT named 1.6 is now available and it is compatible with above camcorders. This version solves the issues with camcorders like SONY HC40 which has a "soft" mode selector switch.

Lanc II is fully compatible. We do not recommend the use of Lanc SPORT (version 1.4 or earlier) on these camcorders if they are intended to be used in VTR mode.
The mechanical switch for selecting the operation mode have been replaced on a number of newer camcorders (see list below) from Sony by a push button. By pressing the button repeatedly available operation modes is selected one by one each time the button is pushed. The selected mode is however not remembered when the camcorder is turned off so each time the camcorder is turned ON it starts from CAMERA mode and the user has to select the desired user mode (MEMORY / PHOTO / VTR etc.) even if it was used in VTR (PLAYER) mode before being turned OFF.
Lanc SPORT (version 1.4 or earlier) will therefore not function as intended if the camcorder is turned OFF and in VTR (PLAYER) mode. Each time the camcorder is turned ON, either by the switch on the camcorder or via Lanc SPORT, it will start up in CAMERA mode and the user have to put the camcorder in VTR (PLAYER) mode manually. Lanc SPORT works in CAMERA mode also so the user can be fooled to believe that the camcorder is in VTR mode and recording when it’s recording in CAMERA mode.
